Don’t let the peace and tranquility of Hidden Lake fool you; there is world-class shopping no more than 10 – 30 minutes away, with a variety of locations and stores to suit every need.
First up is Green Oak Village Place. This shopping area, literally around the corner from Hidden Lake on US-23, is an eclectic blend of shops for men, women and children, and features the newest concept in shopping: the feel of a village. Restaurants are sprinkled throughout, from Panera Bread to Carabba’s, and across the highway is the shopping giant Costco with a large Kohl’s nearby.
If you’d rather go for the real deal, head out to Brighton, about 10 miles west on I-96. The quaint downtown of Brighton has a variety of boutiques, funky gift shops and restaurants galore. Situated right on the Huron River, there are Farmer’s Markets and concerts here in the summer, and deals to be had in the winter while proprietors clear out their shelves to make way for spring merchandise. Close to the highway, don’t miss the large Target store and a variety of larger retailers.
Another hop, skip and a jump gets you to Twelve Oaks Mall, situated just off of I-96, east of Hidden Lake by about 17 miles. This is the upscale shopping destination you might be craving. Anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, Sears and JC Penney, this huge shopping venue is imminently accessible, and features over 200 stores. Variety, selection and novelty are the hallmarks of this mega mall.
A whole day could be devoted to IKEA, located about a half hour away in Canton, south on I-275 at Ford Road. The entire upper level is set up as individual rooms/apartments to showcase the stunning variety of unique products. Don’t miss the yummy cafeteria, which sounds questionable but is really very tasty and affordable. After perusing the upper floor, head to the lower level to pick out your purchases and visit the specialty Swedish food shop to add to your epicurean delights back home.
