History
On the site of a working sand and gravel quarry, developers Earl and Steve LaFave of Beck Development Co. envisioned something else: a truly unique, carefully planned lakefront community that would combine the utmost in sophisticated elegance with a casual, recreation based lifestyle. The centerpiece of the community would be the 110-acre natural spring-fed lake that had been at the heart of mining operation.
As vision became reality, the site’s industrial history has been preserved in the community’s Marketing Center, whose cutting edge, historically sensitive architectural design is based on the original 90-foot floating dredge. The dredge, since dismantled, was a distinctive fixture of the quarry. An informative and well-researched wall exhibit featuring historic photographs is permanently on display there. In addition, as mining operations wound down and the community took shape, materials quarried on site were used in shaping and landscaping this exquisitely designed community.
