Hidden Lake was always “Green”
The protection of the environment and especially the all-sports lake at the Hidden Lake community was of utmost importance to the developers and as a result “Green” design was incorporated into the final development plans. A passive system was designed to filter the storm water generated from the hard surfaces such as driveways, roads, roofs etc. This DNR approved design consist of underground storm water storage vaults that trap the sediments and pollutants from such things as automobiles and allows the water to naturally percolate through the ground and then traps the sediments without allowing then to enter into the natural underground water table. The removal of these sediments is then accomplished by periodic vacuuming of the underground vaults.
Additional safeguards have been put into place such as limiting the type of fertilizers that can be used at Hidden Lake to only organic products for lawns and plantings. Catch and release programs have been instituted at Hidden Lake to ensure that the ecological balance and natural habitat of the lake can be maintained with the various species of game fish. The final development plan provided for open space to be increased and maintained in lieu of additional housing units allowing for parks and walkways through natural undeveloped areas.
Lastly the wetland areas previously lost to the mining operation, have been re- hydrated and are thriving with wildlife and vegetation.
Hidden Lake is proud to announce that three of our approved builders have received certification as “Green” and Energy Star Builders.
